We are the 2emptynesters – Nigel & Jane – travel bloggers based in the Cotswolds in England. We’ve visited 14 countries across 4 continents since we started this blog in 2016, including a 57-day round the world trip. Nigel tends to take the photos and we share the writing. So far it has worked well and we’ve had many moments when people have told us they’ve been inspired by what we do.
Going right back to my teenage years, my ambition was to travel to 50 countries by the time I was 50. This goal has motivated me to explore the globe – often with my family in tow. I’ve taken my two daughters to destinations from Marrakech to the Sinai, but they are now of an age where they can fend for themselves. Since meeting Jane, I’ve achieved the 50-country goal (it was Japan, by the way) and am currently working towards visiting all 7 continents. My work life as a freelance business coach gives me lots of flexibility. So my focus is increasingly turning to travel. And, fortunately, the same can be said for my partner, Jane.
I’m happiest with a travel ticket and a notebook. I blame my late father, who travelled the globe as a royal bodyguard, enthralling me with tales of his trips. I’ve worked as a BBC radio producer and newsreader, a newspaper journalist, NHS PR officer and TV and movie extra, but now split my time between working as a voiceover, travelling, and writing. I’ve watched my own two fledglings fly the nest, and had clocked up a fair few airmiles before I met Nigel–but luckily, his wanderlust, like mine, was still to be sated; hence our big trip, and our commitment to travel together as far and wide as we can.
